AUSTRIAN AMERICAN FRIENDSHIP INSTITUTIONS IN AUSTRIA


AUSTRO AMERICAN SOCIETY/ÖSTERREICHISCH AMERIKANISCHE GESELLSCHAFT
An independent and nonpartisan organization, founded in 1946, to strengthen and promote the cultural and scientific relations between Austria and the United States with offices in all Austrian federal states. Activities of the Society include lectures by and panel discussions with Austrian and international authorities from the media, from the academic, business and political world covering a broad range of topical subjects.
The Society organizes a variety of international Programs, which are described below:

 

SALZBURG SUMMER SCHOOL
The objective of the program is to provide participants with an opportunity to learn the German language through direct contact with Austrian culture, folklore and the Austrian way of life. Emphasis is placed on German instruction at all levels. Students live on campus and enjoy the particularly familiar atmosphere which the school is famous for.
The curriculum of the German course (152 academic hours - all levels) is governed by the rules set up by the Goethe-Instiut; certificates of the Goethe-Institut can be earned by students attending the full session. Additional seminars are offered in Business German, Literature, and Music. Sport and cultural packages, including tickets for the Salzburg Festival, are available. The required minimum Age is 17. The full session is 6 weeks (end of June - mid August), the half session three weeks (end of June 30 - mid/end July or mid/end July - mid August). German courses are ca. U$ 1.000,- (6 weeks) and ca. U$ 550,- (3 weeks); room and half board is ca. U$ 40,- per day/person.

 

HOW TO LEARN GERMAN IN VIENNA - GOETHE-INSTITUT EXAMINATION CENTER
The Austro-American Society has been organizing intensive-courses in connection with the Goethe-Institut for 25 years. The AAS is the only examination center of the Goethe-Insitut in Austria where the internationally renowned certificates are offered.
Intensive Courses are available from elementary to the very advanced level. Course hours are Monday through Friday from 8.45 a.m. - 12.00 noon or 1.45 p.m. - 5.00 p.m. (= 80 units per term). The minimum course length is four weeks, starting monthly. Tuition starts at ca. U$ 500,-- (incl. textbooks and study material). The required minimum Age is 17. Courses are available for Business German, German Language and Music - please ask for detailed brochure!

 

GERMAN LANGUAGE STUDY PROGRAM FOR THE UNIVERSITY OF NOTRE DAME
Every August the Austro-American Society oganizes an intensive German program in Salzburg for the University of Notre Dame. The program is designed to meet the requirements of linguistic preparation for Notre-Dame University students spending their junior year abroad in Innsbruck.
